Abstract:

The company SCILAB Technology Inc, Oslo, Norway, develops instrumentation for tracing of SCI traffic at the link level. The product spectrum includes the "SCITRAC" LC2 tracer and the new "SCIview" LC3 link tracer. The "SCIview" design incorporates all trace generation and protocol verification functions, including an on-the-fly CRC validation, in an FPGA. The instrument can be configured for a wide range of measuring tasks by downloading the appropriate firmware to the FPGA.

The presentation will include an discussion of challenges encountered in the logic design and hardware implementation of a highly optimized FPGA based design, as well as special problems with tracing directly on high speed links.

The presentation will also shortly describe the experience gained during the development of SCI instrumentation as a possible basis for instrumentation for the coming Infiniband I/O standard.
